
The Foundations Independent Living Trust is a registered charity. There are currently five Trustees: the Rt Hon Sir George Young Bt MP (Chairman), Derek Waddington OBE, JP, Mark Boleat, David Priestnall and John Hallsworth, with Martin Everitt as Secretary.
Foundations Independent Living Trust is currently administered by Foundations the Government-appointed National Coordinating Body for Home Improvement Agencies.
Sir George was elected to Lambeth Borough Council in 1968, along with John Major, and then served on the Greater London Council before entering Parliament in 1974 as MP for Ealing Acton. Following boundary changes he became MP for North West Hampshire in 1997. He was Chairman of the Acton Housing Association from 1972-1979, after which he held a number of ministerial posts under Margaret Thatcher and John Major until 1997. He was one of the longest serving Housing Ministers, doing two spells 1981-1986 and 1990- 1995. He is currently Chairman of the Select Committee on Standards and Privileges.
Derek is currently Chairman of Waterloo Housing Association, which is a major provider of new social housing in the West Midlands and is actively engaged in regeneration. He is also a supplemental magistrate on the Birmingham Bench. He is a former Director of Housing for Birmingham City Council, and has also been a Board Member of the Housing Corporation (Chairman of the Finance and Audit Committee), and a President of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Mark currently runs his own consultancy business dealing with regulation and
trade associations and sits on a number of company boards and committees
including the St Paul Travelers Insurance Company, Hillingdon
Community Trust (of which he is Chairman) and the Gibraltar Financial
Services Commission.
He is the former Director General of the Building Societies Association, the Council of Mortgage Lenders and the Association of British Insurers. Other positions he has held include Chairman of Circle 33 Housing Trust, Chairman of Tennant Housing Trust, Chairman of Hillingdon Housing Association and Board Member of the Housing Corporation..
John is an experienced educator, consultant, manager and company director. He has worked in many areas of the engineering industry, in further education colleges in Tameside and Manchester, and has been a director of his own and other companies in both the public and private sectors. He was elected a Labour Councillor for Hadfield St Andrews in May 1983. In 1995 he became Leader of High Peak Borough Council. He is on the Executive of the East Midlands Regional Local Government Association, chairs the East Midlands Regional Planning Body and serves on a Strategy and Finance Review Group at the national Local Government Association.
David has extensive experience of housing, health and social care. He is currently Deputy Chairman of Hanover Housing Association, a leading national provider of Extra Care and other sheltered housing for older people. He is the former Chairman of Wyre Forest Primary Care Trust and is now Vice Chairman of Worcestershire Primary Care Trust. He worked for many years as Assistant Director Housing Services for Birmingham City Council.
